Programming
Interested community members can participate in computer-based learning throughout the year. These courses prepare individuals with skills to compete in the workforce as an employee or self-employed enterpener. Participants learn the newest technological information that will place them in the forefront for becoming highly qualified for numerous job opportunities.
HOYAS believes urban revitalization happens through several methods-one being sustainability. Due to the low industry/business retention rate here in Holmes County, HOYAS finds this weakness as the primary opportunity to provide entrepreneurship training for youths and adults through our BYOB (Be Your Own Boss) program.
Programs.
This is a method aiming to create job sustainability that could break the cycle of intergenerational poverty. Youth and adults meet at different separate times throughout the week. While the youth learn the basic level courses for building a business, the adults are highly engaged in small group sessions and interactive activities to start creating and growing their own business.
Coming Soon
CURES! will offer G.E.D. certification classes which will outreach through the referral process to the disconnected students at risk of dropping out of school. The G.E.D. classes are three days a week for 12 to 18 weeks depending on the progress and development of the student.
Health Enrichment Learning Practices
HELP! is geared towards health and wellness. We focus on connecting the underserved and disadvantaged in our community with critical information and training relevant to health care access and service.

PROGRAMMING
We understand that every movement counts here in Mississippi. With Holmes County having one of the
highest obesity rates in the nation and several secondary-related diseases, HOYAS is actively pushing for an increase in holistic health awareness and wellness to combat the declining health conditions. We are implemented the Health Enrichment Learning Practices program, or HELP! which is driven by health education and wellness.
We focus on connecting the underprivileged and disadvantaged youths and adults in our community with critical information and training relevant to health care access and service. We participate in local health events and partner with health advocates and ministries who actively promote health and wellness. HOYAS parent organization, Team HOYAS, offers items such as fresh fruits, vegetables and yogurt through küche, our non profit restaurant.
This gives daily customers options to make healthy food choices. By partnering with organizations such as the United Methodist Health Education Center (HEC) in Durant, MS we are able to receive vital health information and become involved in health initiatives within our community and state.
Programming
STARS! Saturday School is a collaborative effort with local comminity members. Its aim is to provide a safe and wholesome place to fill the spirits, minds and bodies of participating children. Here students receive small group and one-on-one academic support, social development and health and wellness education. With guided support, students complete homework, learn study skills, learn team building and conflict resolution skills, and engage in structured games geared towards building any of the skills mentioned. The goal is to ultimately advance students towards becoming productive, meaningful and independent individuals who will provide the same support for the following generation.
STARS! RAW Summer extends STARS! Saturday School program into summer providing ongoing holistic academic enrichment that focuses on strengthening reading, arithmetic and writing skills for those students who struggled throughout the regular academic school year. The curriculum includes fun twists that brighten the summer days. Commonly we lead outings to local parks, cultural events and enhance our programs that invite creative expression.
Skills-building Training Achievment Results and Success
STARS! Academy is an academic program focused on academic enrichment and character education. While the academic and character education is paramount, we know from experience that students learn more when they’re having fun. Our programs are designed to be both fun and challenging.
This comprehensive program provides opportunities for the younger population to grow through a holistic approach while the adults grow to take more responsibility for the overall well-being of our youth within this county. Youth and adults have the opportunity to interact with each other through STARS! Saturday School, mentorship hour, parent-child activity day and more. These are all times children, youth and adults learn and grow together in various environments.
